Your immune system’s main job

Your immune system is your body's front line of defence and it protects you in multiple ways.

  1. Creates a barrier that prevents bacteria, parasites and viruses from entering your body.

  2. Detects those very pathogens before they get a chance to reproduce and cause havoc.

  3. Even if they do manage to seep through, your immune system helps to eliminate them.

Immune Homeostasis

In the same way as we talk about Biofeedback helping your body get back to balance in its homeostasis state, your immune system also has what’s called Immune Homeostasis, where the immune response becomes over or under-active and diseases can evade the body or autoimmune disorders become prevalent.

One of your immune systems main sources of strength comes from the food you eat. So ensuring you keep a healthy gut through nutrient rich foods will help your body fight off intruders that can otherwise make you ill.

Here are my 4 favourite supplements supporting that very process.

1. Vitamin C

Number 1 of my top 4 immune boosters is Vitamin C.

Vitamin C otherwise known as ascorbic acid is water soluble, meaning your body doesn’t store or produce any, so once excreted that’s it until you replenish it. Even eating large quantities of vitamin c rich foods isn’t always adequate for the body, particularly if you eat a high carb diet, which is why I believe (and lots of research indicates) a high strength vitamin c supplement is vital.

VITAMIN C’S BENEFITS:

  • Powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic

  • Aids elimination, which boosts energy

  • Prevents anaemia by aiding the absorption of iron.

  • Improves heart health, by reducing cholesterol and triglycerides - in other words fats.

  • Promotes glowing skin as it synthesises the production of collagen needed for skin renewal and wound healing.

Grains are big blockers for lots of vital nutrients.png

VITAMIN C RICH FOODS

Foods most rich in vitamin C are; citrus fruits, oranges, grapefruits, pineapples, kiwis, papayas, from veggies; bell peppers, broccoli, spinach, ginger and garlic. Grains are big blockers for lots of vital nutrients including vitamin C, so if you have a known compromised immune system then please eliminate grains, if not significantly cut them back twice a week max. I promise you, it’s worth it.

POTENTIAL DEFICIENCY SIGNS

  • Chronic fatigue, tiredness and feel sluggish esp after meals (likely eat a high carb/grain diet and don’t exercise much)

  • Poor digestion and constipation

  • Muscle and joint pain

  • Your skin is dry and flaky - esp on face

  • Bleeding gums

  • Problems fighting infections

  • Slow wound healing

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

It aided me through an infection in my bowel where I was told by the doctors to just take painkillers, which I ended up doing 4 hourly (and I NEVER take painkillers, like NEVER), obviously wanting to cut the painkillers out as soon as possible, I researched into vitamin C’s benefits and decided to give it a go. The pain stopped after one dose. INCREDIBLE! The intermittent fever went too, so in my eyes it cleared the infection. So I swapped the painkillers for vitamin C.

SOLGAR’S VITAMIN C

This supplement cleared a bowel infection.

Ordinarily I would take 1-2 of these per day at 1500mg per tablet, BUT during this pandemic I have been taking 3-4 per day, so up to 6000mg. If I’ve experienced (or should I say when I experienced) symptoms I would take up to 3-4 tablets per hour, that’s 6000mg per hour OR until what they call up until bowel tolerance. IE until you get diarrhea, then just drop it back. It’s totally safe and speeds up the healing process by aiding your body to eliminate any pathogens.

At the moment they are currently trialling very high doses of vitamin C intravenously for cancer and COVID-19 and from what I’ve read are having some successful results. See below for more articles.

2. Zinc

Number 2 TOP immune boosters is Zinc

Zinc is a trace mineral, which means we need it in smaller amounts, particularly as our body doesn’t store it. It acts as a co-factor for thousands of enzymes and these enzymes need Zinc to accomplish their many vital jobs.

Dr. Eric Berg notes Zinc is one of the most common deficiencies in crops and in the agricultural soil they’re grown in and specifically describes ‘soil deficiencies are widespread in Asian’. It is said a third of the population are deficient in Zinc. An interesting link with COVID-19!

ZINC BENEFITS

  • A natural antidepressant because Dopamine (the pleasure giver binds to Zinc and the opposite to pleasure is depression/pain!)

  • Helps to regulate your hormone production

  • Promotes growth and repair, specifically your hair and nails

  • Aids skin problems such as acne and wound healing

  • Reduces inflammation and fights free-radical damage protecting you against disease, therefore aiding your immune system

  • It makes and repairs your DNA.

GMO foods along with grains can act as a Zinc blocker, so it’s a good idea to reduce grains and also buy organic where / if you can.

GMO foods along with grains can act as a Zinc blocker, so it’s a good idea to reduce grains and also buy organic where / if you can.

ZINC’S RICH FOODS

  • Lamb

  • Grass fed beef

  • Seafood

  • Seaweed

  • Shellfish

  • Legumes, chickpeas, lentils and beans

  • Seeds, hemp, flax, pumpkin or squash seeds

  • Nuts

  • Kefir / yogurt / cottage cheese

  • Mushrooms

  • Spinach

  • Avocados

POTENTIAL DEFICIENCY SIGNS

  • Low immunity

  • Dwarfism

  • Poor nail and hair growth

  • White specks in fingernails (high sugar can cause this)

  • Acne and Slow wound healing

  • Lack of taste and smell (another interesting link to COVID-19)

  • Prostate issues, such as Hypogonadism - where you may have small testicles, don’t produce enough testosterone, experience low libido and or have fertility issues.

HOME ZINC TEST

There is a Zinc test you can do at home.

Put a little on your tongue, if you can’t taste any at all, you’re deficient. If it tastes really metallicy, then you have enough.

3. Baobab Powder

Number 3 of my top immune boosters is Baobab powder.

Baobab powder comes from the fruit of the Baobab tree. The fruit grows on the end of its branches, looks a bit like an elongated coconut and bakes in the sun for about 6 months of the year. The pulp is scooped out and dehydrated into powder which you can add to water or smoothies and it just takes a bit sherbety, even my two year old will drink it without shuddering! A happy toddler = a happy mummy!

BAOBAB’S MAIN BENEFITS

  • It’s a rich natural source of vitamin C and antioxidants which aids energy release and collagen production.

  • It has prebiotic fibres which help promote good bacteria in your gut, aiding digestion, constipation and therefore your sleep.

  • As vitamin C does, it increases your body’s ability to absorb iron, combating anaemia.

  • Highly alkalising (an acidic body is a harbouring ground for viruses, bacteria and parasites, so eat as alkalising as possible).

  • Promotes good bacteria in the gut aiding your immune systems job in detecting pathogens and eradicating those invaders!

BAOBAB POWDER, SEVENHILLS WHOLEFOODS

2-4 teaspoons a day in a smoothie, juices, on your breakfast or just in water throughout the day.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I started to feel quite ill, noticed my bowel movements weren’t normal and felt really heavy on the right hand side (my ascending colon). I knew it could be potentially quite serious, as I wasn’t eliminating properly and this had been going on for quite a few months. I’d tried everything in my tool kit; large quantities of magnesium and even Epsoms salts only seemed to be clearing my transverse and descending colon, but nothing was moving the ascending colon.

So after some researching one evening I took a heaped teaspoon of the Baobab’s powder and after about an hour (with lots of water too) it slowly started to disperse, with no pain or cramping. It was incredible, the only thing that had worked and by that next evening I’d eliminated it and I felt so energised!

4. Thyme Oil

Number 4 of my top immune boosters is Thyme Essential Oil.

Thyme is a perennial herb from the Mint family, Ancient Egyptians used to use it for embalming practices due to its high antibacterial properties and the Ancient Greeks used it for incense as it helps to clear airborne viruses. These days it’s better known for adding flavour to our culinary dishes, but let me tell you this little herb is so much more than that.

Thyme’s BENEFITS

It’s an antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic and has anti-inflammatory properties.

It’s packed with vitamins A + C.

It’s a natural cough remedy, great for respiratory infections and really soothing on the lungs.

Reduces fungus in the body, so helps to clear candida and thrush in the mouth and vagina.

It also helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I started to feel quite unwell after a really emotionally intense time, a lot of travelling and admittedly eating things I wouldn’t normally, too many carbs…. I felt exhausted! This went on for a few days and then I started to notice spots appearing on the back of my throat.

So I scanned myself on the Biofeedback machine (see image) and tonsillitis showed 5th element down, so when I saw that it totally made sense! I sent the frequency feedback on the tonsillitis back to myself which stimulates my body’s natural healing response.

After reading how powerful Thyme was for respiratory infections, when researching natural remedies for coughs and COVID-19 protection I decided to try it as a spray for my throat.

I bought some spray bottles (initially for hand sanitisers), added 4 drops in a little water and began my first dose. A few sprays at the back of my throat and after about an hour, I noticed the pain subsiding. Every time I felt a twinge of pain, I sprayed a few more times. Towards the end of that day I noticed I started feeling a bit better and by the second day the spots had gone and my energy returned - amazing! NO ANTIBIOTICS NEEDED!
